Hello. I am a greenhorn prospector in Ottawa originally from New Sudbury. To pan for gold in Ontario you must have a Ontario prospectors licence and secure the claim by staking. You must also follow access to private, crownland, aboriginal, or protected property laws. To dredge in Ontario you will have to include Ministry of the Enviroment laws and approval applications and major studies on the impact of silting water which can impact on fish and wildlife...plus much more to be allowed to dredge. Contact the Ministry of Northern Development and mines for masses of info. You will find a lot of fools gold in Sudbury and flakes of gold in the Ottawa river area. good luck on prospects to you. www.mndm.gov.on.ca/mines/lands/pro/questions_e.asp6. (D) Do I need a prospector's license if I only want to do gold panning or collect a few mineral samples or fossils? No. But there are specific rules about mineral collecting as a hobby. Please refer to Policy LP 701-1.

Hello,
My name is Anita Li; I'm a researcher with CBC News in Toronto.
We are currently working on a story about gold panning in Ontario, specifically in the Madoc area.
If you are a gold panner/prospector based in Ontario, I would love to chat with you.
Please contact me at anita.li@cbc.ca.
Thanks, Anita Li

The Ontario Prospectors Association... It is now the time to make our rights as miner an Election issue . We must stand united and make this election a voice of all miners small or large scale mining . And make it an issue on the Election day… For it is one year a way...

Anyone have a gold claim in Ontario that you would allow me to explorer the area and possibly take a few samples of rocks and whatever I find?

Does anyone know if panning for gold or any valued metals is possible in Scarborough or Pickering, Ajax or Oshawa area in rivers or creeks around those areas. Just want to know if it is possible to find any their or if anyone has ever tried.
Thanks Brian
