So much for the nice weather but hopefully the snow will be gone soon. I did some hard rock prospecting in SE Ontario a couple times last year and found 1-2 sites that are worth a second look.
One of them has quite a few quartz veins.
Another spot found some sort of sandstone with quite a lot of pyrite in it. I wonder what to make of that. You can see some bedding within the rock and the pyrite is more concentrated in certain beds and a similar size to the sand grains. Not a lot of dark minerals though, mostly just the pyrite.
Found some interesting minerals too. Riebeckite, magnetic specular hematite, amazonite, a rock loaded with garnets, a rock containing finger-sized hornblende, a bit of chalcopyrite. No gold, although the gold in this area is mostly too small to see so I'm looking for indicator minerals like sphalerite, galena, chalcopyrite...

Just joined the site and recently got my prospecting license. Been educating myself on prospecting for the past few months, from Petawawa Ontario! Nickd, you mentioned SE Ontario...I was hoping to possible check out some rivers and creeks in the Bancroft area and possibly head over to Mattawa as well and maybe into Quebec as I have a license there as well, maybe look at rivers below the greenstone belt, below Valdor. Trying not to travel to far at first of course. Any suggestions would be great:) Have you guys found any gold in non typical areas? Just wondering. Cheers

Sorry, also had a quick question regarding prospecting.....have read through Mining Act and was wondering about Dispostioned land and whether I can prospect on it? As long as it has no active claim or on private property or Prov Park, Reserve, Miltary ect... am I able to go onto it and do minor prospecting?
