Welcome to the new message board for the Ontario Prospectors Association. Feel free to make posts in any board and discuss with other prospectors across the province and the country. You will need to register a user name before you can post but this is FREE and takes only 1 minute to do.
Cheers!

I think you and me must be the only guys in Ontario thinking of prospecting as a hobby judging from the lack of messages. Perhaps this is a new forum and people have not signed on yet.
I'm located not far from Toronto. I wonder if there's any prospecting (particularly gold prospecting) to be done in the rivers surrounding Toronto.
I've never done any prospecting before and I think it might be back breaking labor just trying. But hell, I'm willing to give it a shot.
How about you?

Well same here, see it on tv all the time, im in the london area and nothing here, but here lots about thunder bay area. Im up by sudbury all the time and would like to give it a try there as well, but no one seems to want to say anything. Stopped in bancroft once at the mine place there and the guy showed me a hunk of quarts with gold in it and i must say it was neat to see that made me want to take it and run. But sure would like to see this site get more responses hope to hear from you soon.............joey

I'm sure there must be gold just about everywhere. Someone told me that while panning for gold, he'd also keep his eye out for other gems. He usually made more money off selling the gems more so than gold. So its something to keep in mind. I would suggest just finding a river wherever you are, a secluded spot... and just start trying your hand at panning gold. Don't expect it to pay for the trip let alone make you rich though. Its hard work and if nothing else just take it as good exercise. Here's a good site on gold panning : www.mdpub.com/prospecting/index.html

As far as the proposed Ontario mining act amendments. I'm having a hard time understanding how a online map-based staking system would be beneficial to the individual prospector? We don't have access to the same resources as the larger mining company's among other things (IE: money). For the most part I agree with proposed changes just not when it involves taking the men off the ground from actually doing the claim staking. Maybe I'm missing some facts? Can anyone fill me in on how myself, the little guy can benefit from this particular change?I'm quite fond of prospecting and really don't want to be forced out of prime prospect areas by the larger players by making it easier for them to "click and claim" with out even setting foot on the claim. Dose anyone else have any facts or opinions on this topic?I'm all ears.
Regards
